Jeffrey A. Mollet
Jeff is a lifelong resident of Southern Illinois, having been raised on a livestock and grain farm in Bond County. During high school, he served as the President of the Greenville FFA Chapter and also began a small farming operation as part of the family farm. Jeff enrolled at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville in 1982, and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Government in 1986. Thereafter, he continued to work on the family farm and was also employed by a local agricultural equipment dealership while preparing to attend law school beginning in 1989, graduating with a Juris Doctorate from St. Louis University Law School in 1992.

Jeff’s present focus is in the areas of bankruptcy, banking and finance, real estate and agriculture. He represents numerous financial institutions, providing support for general and complex loan transactions, employment matters, secured transactions and commercial litigation. He also provides representation in chapter 11 and 12 bankruptcy matters, and advises and counsels clients with respect to loan work-outs and general business and operational issues.

Because of his agricultural and finance background and experience, Jeff is also particularly suited to serve the rural agribusiness community. Jeff’s agribusiness experience ranges from general agribusiness litigation to the formation and representation of cooperatives to agricultural finance and related matters. Past efforts have been directed at the raising of equity, financing and planning/feasibility as well as cooperative governance and organizational issues. These projects include representation in the areas of bio-fuels, meat processing and grain and product marketing.

Jeff is a frequent speaker and published author on agricultural topics. He has been the co-editor of the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education’s handbook ILLINOIS LAW AND AGRIBUSINESS, and authored the chapter on Production and Marketing Contracts. He has also written chapters for other Institute handbooks including Agricultural and Agribusiness Loans and The Sale of Agricultural Property for Commercial Use. Jeff served as Chairman of the Illinois State Bar Association’s Agricultural Law Section Council in 2005-2006, and has been the Council’s newsletter editor for many years. He was also a speaker on venture capital and financing at the Illinois Coalition for Animal Agriculture’s 2002 symposium and spoke on the topic of “Organizing New Generation Cooperatives” for the 2001 American Agricultural Law Association annual convention in Colorado Springs.  He currently speaks annually to the Illinois Banker's Association on UCC and related matters.

In addition to agribusiness matters, Jeff’s practice includes business, estate and succession planning, commercial transactions and local government representation.
